DU teachers give their suggestions for the BJP Election Manifesto of BJP

New Delhi,  Under the process of getting suggestions from the public for the Election Manifesto 2015, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Satish Upadhyay talked with the professors and college principals of DU. A delegation of about 300 professors, lecturers and college principals of DU met BJP Pradesh President Shri Upadhyay at the Party office and gave their suggestions. Prominent persons in the delegation included Dr. P.K. Chinda, Dr. Suman Sharma, Prof. Yamini Gupta and Dr. R.B. Solanki.

This interaction continued for about 2 hours and the teachers of various colleges gave their suggestions in which the prominent points are:-

  • On the one hand many colleges in Delhi are only morning colleges and on the other hand there is lack of college infrastructure. In this situation the teachers suggested that all the colleges to be run in two shifts.
  • University campus should be established in East and West Delhi on priority basis.
  • Moral education, career counseling and education for nation building should be essential part of graduate degree course.
  • There is only one college in the rural area of Delhi. One college each should be established in Narela, Najafgarh area on priority basis.
  • Hostels should be constructed on the dormitory and kitchen basis for the Girl students coming from outside Delhi and single teachers.
  • A digital library on a selected place in Delhi under DU should be developed so that international level information may be readily available.
  • Colleges under DU should be allowed to get affiliation with foreign universities.

After discussion with the teachers in his thanks giving address Shri Satish Upadhyay said that BJP will study the suggestions from the teachers of DU seriously and include most of the suggestions in our Manifesto. Shri Upadhyay said that all the suggestions of the teachers are reasonable but personally I give my moral support to three suggestions at this forum. I am of the view that all the colleges should be run in two shifts so that all the eligible students get admission. After coming to power we shall start work for a college in rural Delhi within six months and the college will start functioning within the next two years. Besides this we shall give priority to the proposal of dormitory hostels in our Manifesto.

So far as moral education is concerned, BJP and ABVP have always been supporting it. Opening digital library and affiliation to foreign universities will be useful for the students. Proposal for establishment of university campus in East and West Delhi is reasonable but we require sufficient time for it.

Shopping malls to come up at select locations in 3 years Railways undertaking massive tech

NEW DELHI, The Indian Railways has embarked on a massive technology upgradation drive to cater to the safety and comport of passengers and cut down on travel time, Mr Arunendra Kumar, Chairman, Railway Board, said here today while addressing FICCI’s National Executive Committee Meeting on the eve of FICCI’s 87th Annual General Meeting on Saturday.

In a special address on ‘A New Vision for the Indian Railways’, Mr. Kumar told industry leaders that following the decision to open up the Railways to 100% FDI in 10 select areas, benchmarked to global standards, the railways is looking to large private sector investment “in areas where we want and in areas where you want to invest.”

Mr Kumar said that given the need to modernize the system to make the railways people-centric, “the Indian Railways is not likely to do what it has been doing in the past and it will come up in a business-like manner.” In this context, the first investors meet was held on December 5 and the next is slated to be held on the January 6, 2015.

Giving an instance of the enormity of the investments required for high speed trains of 300 plus kms per hour, the Railway Board chief said whilst the funds required for laying tracks for express trains was Rs. 10 crore per km., for high speed trains it was a whopping Rs. 100 crore. Apart from developing these, the plans are afoot to raise the speed of exiting trains. For instance, it is proposed to cut the travel time from Delhi to Kanpur to three hours and Kanpur to Lucknow to one hour.

He said that technology was being brought in every area in which the railways operate. For the convenience of the passengers, mobile ticketing was about to be launched shortly.

Station development is another area that is engaging the attention of the Indian Railways. A shopping mall concept was in the works to attract passengers who normally arrive at the station much before the train departs. “We should be able to see this happen at five-six locations in the next two to three years”, he said.

Additionally, catering of food is sought to be improved by allowing passengers to order the menu of their choice at a particular station; apart from re-designing wagons and locos for comfort and making them accident-resistant and easy tracking of freight parcels.

Mr. Kumar ar said that special efforts were being make to reduce the number of accidents at railway crossings, 40% of which occur die to careless motorists, by reducing the number of crossings. At present there are 11,000 unmanned crossings and it is proposed to eliminate them altogether in the next 6 years.

ASSOCHAM for tariff reduction on imported nutritional foods in Budget 2015-16 , Nutritional foods are highly beneficial for patients suffering from cancer & renal diseases

Apex industry body ASSOCHAM has urged the Centre to reduce the tariff imposed on nutritional foods that are essential for cancer and renal diseases management as the Government readies itself to prepare Union Budget 2015-16.

“There is a need to relook at the duties being currently levied on imported products which are able to provide high quality nutrition (which are highly recommended by healthcare professionals) as an early and intensive nutrition intervention is beneficial for both diseases,” highlighted The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in a communication addressed to Mr Amitabh Kant, secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP).

As per the current import duty structure for nutritional food products beneficial for both these disease, there is basic customs duty (BCD) of 30 per cent and a countervailing duty (CVD) of 12.36 per cent.

Besides, CVD of 12.36 per cent is also levied on domestic manufacturers, hence, the BCD is additional for importers.

“If both BCD and CVD can be made nil (zero per cent), it will benefit hundreds of thousands of families from lower cost of providing nutritional food to patients who already suffer from high cost of medicines for these diseases,” said Mr D.S. Rawat, secretary general of ASSOCHAM.

“Even the customs duties on similar products in countries like Singapore and Vietnam is nil (zero per cent) and as low as five per cent respectively,” said Mr Rawat.

Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) is the most common secondary diagnosis in individuals diagnosed with cancer, starting from inadequate intake of carbohydrate, protein and fat to the reduced absorption of macronutrients.

While patients with renal failure represent an extremely heterogeneous group, whose nutritional requirements can therefore differ widely as such PEM is very common amid kidney patients that negatively impacts prognosis.

ProSure is a therapeutic nutritional food product scientifically formulated to address nutritional needs of people suffering from cancer-induced weight loss or who are at risk of developing this complication.

Various clinical studies have demonstrated that drinking ProSure daily as part of an overall cancer plan – promotes weight gain; helps build/maintain lean body mass; improves physical activity, quality of life, appetite and dietary intake; increases strength and attenuates pro-inflammatory response.

Nepro LP is a product for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease and Nepro HP is for patients on dialysis. “Clinicians prescribe these products due to benefit features like good quality protein, high quantity monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), presence of modified maltodextrin (Fibersol), low electrolytes and calorie density (more calories in less volume).

It is estimated that about 80,000 new cases of cancer will be seen by 2020 in India. While the current prevalence of kidney diseases is about 17 per cent in the country.

Infra financing can be vulnerable to market failures; NPAs rise up to alarming 17.43%: ASSOCHAM

Emphasising that investment in infrastructure can be subject to market failures, an   ASSOCHAM research paper has noted Gross Non-performing assets (GNPAs) and restructured standard advances for the vital sector  together  has gone up alarming level of 17.43 per cent of the banks’ total advances.

Most of the increase in the GNPA in the infrastructure sector has come about in the four-year period of March, 2009 and March, 2013 rising from just about 4.66 per cent to 17.43 per cent of total advances of the banks.

“Thus, continued expansion of bank finance to meet the infrastructure investment may not be sustainable as it may lead a growing concentration of risks on bank’s balance sheets. These risks emanate from the maturity mismatch by financing long terminfra projects from short term bank liabilities,” the ASSOCHAM paper authored by experts in the infrastructure financing said.

It said markets alone willoften fail to provide these services–either because an infrastructure project would not be profitable onits own, or because the associatedrisks are too large or too costly toinsure. As a result, infrastructureinvestment from the private sectorin many cases cannot be realisedwithout some form of publicsupport. This may take the formof direct financial support or someform of insurance.

In turn, the necessary involvement of a widerange of parties in infrastructure projects – construction companies, operators, government authorities, private investors, insurers and the citizens most directly affected – makeit a complex but essential task to design an efficient set of contracts.

“However much we may like it, the context and the ground reality brought about by the paper clearly points out that in the foreseeable future, Government will remain the key investor in critical infrastructure sectors, although PPPs could helpreduce fiscal constraints,” ASSOCHAM Secretary General Mr D S Rawat said.  Increased private funding for infrastructure will also requirereforms to address the more binding constraints, related to the policy andregulatory environment.

In the last four – five years the credit to infrastructure grew at a faster pace than total credit. Consequently, the share of infrastructure in gross non-food bank credit rose from 8 per cent in March 2007 to more than 14 per cent in March 2012

But in the coming years public sector banks will need capital infusion of Rs2, 400 Billion by the year 2018 to be in line withBasel III norms. This is likely to act as a constraining factor in lendingoperations. But the FDI in the sector was not really impressive.

Cumulative FDI inflows into theinfrastructure sector were of theorder more than USD 25 Billionduring the 12th Plan and averagedUSD 5 Billion per annum. The breakup of FDI inflows revealsthat telecom sector was thehighest recipient of FDI inflows with a share of 40 per cent followed by power 24 per cent, petroleum & natural gas 19 per cent, transport 11 per cent and non-conventional energy 6 per cent.

DELHI METRO MUSEUM INTRODUCES NEW EXHIBIT - A GIANT REPLICA OF TUNNEL BORING MACHINE’S CUTTER HEAD

The Delhi Metro Museum today introduced a new attraction for the visitors – an 8 ft tall giant replica of the cutter head of a tunnel boring machine (TBM), which will give the visitors a real time experience of how these giant machines bore tunnels underground.
The new exhibit was unveiled at the Metro Museum in Patel Chowk by Delhi Metro’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh in the presence of DMRC’s other Directors and senior officials. This replica has been madeof mild steel and looks exactly like the original cutter head of a TBM. The cutter head replica revolves like the original cutter heads. A separate button has also been provided, through which commentary, both in English and Hindi, narrating the details of the machine can be heard by the visitors. Visitors can also read about the cutter head from a display board installed in front of the exhibit.
The Cutter Head of a TBM is a circular structure at the front of the machine which cuts through the soil surface to facilitate the construction of underground tunnels. Armed with ‘teeth’ it revolves clockwise and bores through the surface, while the other components of the TBM help in taking the muck out and facilitate further tunnel construction by putting up the pre-cast concrete segments of the tunnel in sequence.
The type of the Cutter Head depends on the nature of the soil surface. There are different Cutter Heads for soft soil, hard rock and other kinds of surface. This is undoubtedly one of the most important components of a Tunnel Boring Machine.
The Delhi Metro Museum is one of the few museums globally which are dedicated to Metro railway.A treasure trove of display panels, historical photographs and exhibits about the Metro, the museum traces the genesis of the Delhi Metro. Since its inception, the museum has been visited by many eminent dignitaries, researchers and students.

FICCI comments on WPI inflation at 0.0% in November 2014

New Delhi, akash dwivedi, “The continuous downtrend in both WPI and CPI seen over the past four/five months is a positive signal towards stabilization of prices. While the issue of inflation is being handled well, the sharp dip in manufacturing growth reported in the latest monthly release is a matter of concern. This needs to be tackled on war footing”, said Mr. Sidharth Birla, President, FICCI.
“The recent data on capital goods and consumer durables reflect persistent weak demand conditions.  In addition, the global recovery remains scattered and this is reflected in our export growth which was seen waning in the past few months. Amidst the current situation, a cut in the interest rates will at least provide some impetus to domestic demand.

Disturbed over falling industrial growth, slow movement of reforms, India Inc leadership convene in Kolkata under ASSOCHAM aegis

NEW DELHI ,AKASH DWIVEDI,Concerned over a deteriorating global economic situation and sharp drop in industrial production despite falling prices, India Inc ‘s top leadership is meeting in Kolkata tomorrow under the aegis of ASSOCHAM to brainstorm these issues and come out with  clear strategic inputs for the government.

“While there were concerns about slow pace of industrial growth, 4.2 per cent drop in the industrial production in October has come as a shocker of sorts for us. While we were in a party mood over declining energy prices, little did we realise that the phenomenon was a clear signal of the demand dip in most of the large economies of the world, including China, Japan , entire Europe.  Surely, our exports face a great challenge in the months ahead,” ASSOCHAM Secretary General Mr D S Rawat said.

He said the Managing Committee , the top organ of the chamber, would come up with specific suggestions for the government of Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi . “While I do not want to pre-judge the deliberations, it was time some hard reality check  was done since the excitement about formation of the new government is behind us. The biggest challenge before the nation today is growth and employment generation which alone will enable us to reap dividends of the much-touted demographic advantage.”

The lone focus on the FII inflows and the Sensex would not suffice as the international capital flows can directions any time now and the rupee may come under pressure again. “We need to keep a close watch”.

While the venue of these meetings keep changing, Kolkata is more relevant and pertinent since the industry leaders would be able to impress upon the Trinamool Congress, the Left parties and other political parties to come around and be on a common platform when it comes to crucial economic issues.

“Some of the industry segments like consumer durables and non-durables are in real troubles.  New projects are not taking off, investment cycle is yet to revive….Cannot depend only on services to steer the growth.  The revival would require some bold measures and confidence building by the investors who would go around implementing the projects only if they see real progress on the ground. A cyclical turnaround in the energy prices alone would not help,” the chamber noted.

It said while RBI Governor Dr Raghuram Rajan has a point in seeking revival of the domestic demand, “ the ASSOCHAM would like to emphasis even if the world demand is subdued, we cannot lower guard on exports….We need to re-strategise our exports in the changing world. Concentrating on the domestic demand through Make For India and not Make in India approach would amount to looking inward.  We must continue to reach out to the rest of the world braving the headwinds,” Mr Rawat said.
