Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Vijender Gupta today met Lt. Governor Sh. Najeeb Jung alongwith taxi operator union leaders and urged him to immediately intervene in the crisis being faced by 25000 banned taxi drivers/owners. He highlighted the unsympathetic attitude of the Kejriwal Government towards acute hardships and financial crisis being faced by them.
According to Gupta, Mr. Jung patiently heard the grievances of the taxi operators and assured them that he would take up the matter with the Delhi Government. He said that proper steps would be taken to rehabilitate and help him to earn their honest livelihood.
Gupta, stressed that the Government mishandled the case in the Court of Law. It did not plead their case strongly in the Supreme Court. It resulted in acute hardship and crisis of livelihood to lakhs of persons depending on tour and taxi operation business. There are 35 lakhs vehicles in Delhi running on diesel and petrol but the ban has been put only on 25000 taxies. This would hardly make any difference on pollution levels. .
Leader of Opposition had apprised the Police Commissioner of the plight of taxi operators. He had assured that they would not be challaned or penalized. Despite the assurance of Police Commissioner, the Transport Minister has asserted that only CNG base taxies will be allowed to operate in Delhi. He also said that non-CNG taxies will be seized in Delhi. It has already seized a number of taxies.
The Delhi Transport Department and Delhi Traffic Police seem to be working at logger heads against each others each following its own set of rules
