A volunteer organization, Krishi Bikash Shilpa Kendra in search of its due recognition

New Delhi: At a time government is giving so much emphasis on the participation of volunteer organizations in the national development, especially in the rural development, it is ironical that a West Bengal based volunteer organisation
‘Tapsi Jati Adibasi Praktan Sainik Krishi Bikash Shilpa Kendra, at Gentegory, Huoghly in west Bengal is still striving hard to get its old glory and recognition for more than three and half decade.  This volunteer organization was shot in to limelight  in the  late 80s for implementing 20 – point   developmental programmes  launched by the then government national wide, especially in West Bengal. As a matter of fact, this was the sole volunteer organisation to turn that ambitious 20 – point developmental programmes into a reality across the country.

The popularity of this organisation was such that the then Prime Minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi had assured to turn this organization as a government under taking for better implementation of those programmes .  But due to her sudden demise, her assurance could not be come into implementation.  The governments after that did not give much attention towards the work profile and track record of this volunteer organization.  Now the organization has went into oblivion due sheer government apathy. It is interesting that most of the development programmes carried out by the organization has been hijacked by the successive governments but the organization behind those programmes was never taken care of.

The secretary of this organization Mr. Soumen Koley is running pillar to post since then to get its due as assured by the government.  After the formation of BJP led government in the Centre, he met with Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Rural Development, Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation a number of times in this connection but no avail.

More than six thousand five hundred volunteers of this organisation have been working tirelessly at 204 blocks of 18 district across the West Bengal way back in 1979 since its inception solely with their own resources.  But to due fund crunch, now it is difficult to run the organization further. So we are demanding to concern ministry to solve our long time pending demand as soon as possible otherwise we will start mass agitation here  at Delhi in favour of our demands ,said, Somen koley

Comparatively younger and lesser known than this volunteer organization ‘Bandhan Bank’ was recently been given government undertaking status but this status is still a distant dream for this volunteer organization.
