Keeping in view the
vulnerability of Border from smuggling point of view ShriSandeepSalunke,
IPS, Inspector General BSF South Bengal Frontier has
issued operational guidelines to further strengthen Border domination so as to
effectively check the menace of smuggling and other activities of Anti National
Elements on South Bengal Border with Bangladesh. Accordingly field Commanders
ensure implementation of these instructions to maintain extra vigil on border
to thwart the attempts of smugglers / Anti -National Elements. Tactical
operations are being mounted to foil the attempts of smugglers.
On 26thApril, specific
information was received by BSF regarding smuggling of Gold consignment through
a vehicle in the area of Integrated Check Post Petrapole, ex-40Bn BSF under
Police Station Petrapole. On getting the information troops of ICP Petrapole
launched a Special checking party in the concerned area. At about 1320 hrs special
operation party stopped a suspected vehicle and checked the vehicle
thoroughly. During the checking,
Operation team found a bag containing 18NOs of Gold biscuits weighing approx 1800
Gramsof Gold of approx value of Rs.53,31,600/-
wrapped in a plastic from the vehicle driver. During preliminary questioning the
driver revealed hisidentity asManoj Baidya, S/o Ram SundarBaidya, Age-21 Years,
V+PO- Petrapole, PS- Bongaon, Distt-24 Parganas (West Bengal). The apprehended Indian
National along with seized Gold has been handed over to Customs office Petrapole
for further course of action.
BSF South Bengal Frontier has apprehended
07 Gold smugglers and seized total 6068.69 Grams of Gold of approx value of Rs.1,71,66,152/-
during current year.
