Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Sh.
Vijender Gupta today urged CM, Arvind Kejriwal to take strict action against
defaulting DISCOMS. He regretted that
Delhi Government has failed to fulfill its promise of 24x7 power supply during
summer season to Delhiites. Its claim to
have made adequate arrangement for supply of 6200 MGW power has fallen
flat. Right now, the peak demand has
reached 5733 MGW. But the supply is
being frequently cut in different parts of city. He said that the DISCOMS are indulging in
power cuts of 4-5 hours. But all the
three DISCOMS and DERC have turned blind eye to the power shortage.
Gupta said
that the DISCOMS are supplying electricity through old power houses and
equipment. The transformers and power
cables are decades old. It is resulting
in frequent local faults. DISCOMS do not
have sufficient staff to take care of disruption of supply.
Leader of Opposition charged that DISCOMS show huge
investments on up-gradation of transformers, equipments etc. But these are done only papers. Delhi Government has not once imposed any
penalty or fine for their failure to ensure uninterrupted supply of power. He asked the Chief Minister to take the
defaulting DISCOMS to task and ensure uninterrupted supply of power. He also urged him to ensure that DISCOMS
really upgrade their power system and equipment.
