The Deputy Chief Minister, Govt. of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia today exhorted the teachers and faculty members to bear the responsibility to impart technical education to more and more willing students while opening new courses, classes and new wings in the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.
He was speaking as chief guest in the celebration of its third Foundation Day of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women at Kashmere Gate, Delhi. Secretary, TTE and education, Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, Prof Nupur Prakash, Registrar of the University, Smt. Achala Singh were also present on this occasion.
The First Technical University for Women in Delhi IGDTUW has turned three years old and prepared to admit a batch of 600 students in 2016-17 to its various UG, PG and Ph.D programs. Total 2000 students are studying at the Kashmere Gate campus of the University.
The Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women was established vide Act 09 of 2012, by upgrading the erstwhile Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), a constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).
The University has started functioning in 2013-14 with 6 programmes including four UG (B. Tech in CSE/ECE/IT/MAE) and two PG ( M. Tech Part Time and MCA) programmes run by erstwhile IGIT and 04 new M. Tech programmes were started from the Academic Session 2013-14.The University started Ph. D programmes in various branches of Engineering, Science and Technology from the Academic Session 2014-15.A five year Bachelor’s programme in Architecture (B. Arch) with an annual intake of 40 students (Total 200 studentsin five years) has been started from the Academic Session 2015-16 in the University with the approval of Council of Architecture.
The on-line admissions for to all its M.Tech Programs, MCA and PhD is starting w.e.f. 12th May, 2016 and admissions to B. Tech Programs shall be done jointly with NSIT, DTU, IIITD w.e.f. June onwards.
Shri Sisodia also inaugurated the Incubation Centre,Anveshan in IGDTUW and said “Our government is fully aware of the potential of youngsters as agents of revolutionary and transformational changes necessary in the Indian society and therefore committed to take steps for ensuring their active participation in all facets of life – economic, social, technical, political, art, culture, etc.
Shri Sisodia Said that to achieve this aim, our Government is committed to make Delhi a hub for high quality education that integrates innovation, entrepreneurship, knowledge and skills with deep social commitment. It is also our endeavour to involve industry and partner with them skill development programs. Emphasis is also being laid on creating atmosphere conducive to promote a start-up culture where individuals are not only trained to become job seekers but also to become job creators.
He said that he was proud to see the achievements of the students of this University and encourage the young girls of Delhi aspiring to take admission to this prestigious University and consider various options and courses being offered by this technical university in field of Architecture, Engineering and Technology.”
The Deputy Chief Minister also unveiled the Fuel efficient Car designed and fabricated by students for Super Milage Competition to be held in June in Michigan, USA. He also saw the test drive of the all terrain vehicle and hybrid e-rickshaw made by the students and appreciated them. The Engineering students of IGDTUW had fabricated various cars and robot for different national and international level competitions.
Prof Nupur Prakash , Vice Chancellor of the University said “ The Techno-business incubation centre at IGDTUW will encourage young women entrepreneurs to convert their innovative ideas into successful business ventures ”.
Prestigious companies like TCS, Accenture, Hero Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, Snapdeal, Expedia, Sabre Travels, General Motors, GE, Fluor Danial, Maruti Suzuki Motors, Ericson, Cisco, Visa etc. visit the University for campus recruitment every year. The University is planning to increase 60 seats in the Computer Science & Engineering Department and start a new M. Tech program in ICT this year due to excellent placements and job opportunities in IT sector.
